As it is Remembrance Day I looked at the British Legion photos and found this which seems to be the only picture of a Remembrance Day ceremony. I can't recall a Cenotaph in Hayes but wonder if I am right that there must be one there somewhere. It looks as if this picture could be near Church Road. I am remembering my father today, and my Gt.Uncles commemorated in Flanders. Also, all those who died fighting for, or died because of war.

I hope that it is alright to add this poem as it is relevant today. Thankyou.
Outside a Hampshire Church
I walked past the War Memorial
With poppies lying beneath
'Twas a tribute there for all to see
With a newly placed poppy wreath
I thought of all those brave young men
Who never did come home
Who fought bravely for our freedom
And died abroad and alone
I went back and read the list of names
I prayed for every one
Then one name looked so familiar
'Twas my Great-Grandmother's eldest son
My Grandma seldom spoke of him
Her courageous uniformed brother
Too sad for her to think of him
Even sadder for her Mother
So I picture the grave in flanders
Hope his brother is by his side
Together they rest in glorious peace
And my Great-Uncles fill me with pride

I've just been studying this picture again and realised that the shadows give away that it couldn't have been a Remembrance Day ceremony in November in those days. Once I enlarged the picture, I could see that the writing says it was the opening of Legion House, obviously earlier in the year. The two girls on the grass with ribbon hair-bands resemble me and my sister as we were, usually dressed alike.

Hi there! If anyone looks on here who knows Hayes, could they possibly tell me where the Cenotaph is? Thankyou in advance.

In Church Road, by St Mary's Chuch... right opposite the Parish Hall/Hemmen Lane.

Indeed the comment above is correct with the service in St Mary's beginning at around 10.00. The Act of Remembrance is observed by the memorial at 11.00 Hrs on the Second Sunday in November. The Last post is sounded followed by two minutes silence followed by the laying of wreaths for the fallen.
In addition there is a further memorial at St Peter Paul in Harlington in the church grounds. The Act of Remembrance is also observed at this memorial at the same time date as St Mary's.

I've only just read the posts at the start of this thread, I hadn't notice them! You'll be glad to know that there are some pictures of a Remembrance Day parade in Hayes to be seen. It was 1999. The parades at that time were actualy held in the afternoon! Have a look here:
