This is the last of only two surviving lock-ups' in the Metropolitan Police District. Built about 1838 and used by the Parish Constable to lock up drunks, vagrants etc,. usually overnight. If repeated offences would be left there until taken before the Magistrate. Will post a couple more earlier photos. It is Grade II listed. People probably pass it every day without giving it a second glance
