I used to love knitted pullovers and cardigans. My favourite was a white knitted poloneck jumper. My mum started knitting me a pullover once.... I couldn't wait to wear it, but it still isn't finished Nowadays, if it doesn't say Nike or Reebok on it, kids won't wear it. I've known cases where grandmas have sent beautiful clothes and trainers down to their grandchildren for Christmas, identitcal to what you see them all wearing.... but they won't wear them because they don't have designer labels. Tragic.

I knitted a thick, zip-up jacket for my husband. I also made what was called a 'blanket-coat' for myself. Both garments were great when it was really cold. One evening our car was stolen and both jacket and coat were on the back seat. When our car was eventually found both jacket and coat had gone. Some months later, I recognised my coat being worn by a woman walking round the shops. I knew it was mine by the material I had chosen and how I had designed it. I never saw the jacket again and it was the last thing I knitted.

I stood rooted to the spot! I wanted to run round to the Police-Station, then I thought of a citizens arrest :-) but didn't have the nerve to do anything. I just watched her walking by and I remember thinking that it was my coat, my own work and I wanted it, and she should give it back. I probably just went for a coffee to get over the shock. :-)

I found, and have posted a photo of 'the coat' which was perfect for Land's End weather. If I had been able to think clear enough at the time of seeing the other person wearing it after it had been stolen, I could have reported her quickly, knowing I had a photo to prove it was mine. Too late now !
