I notice that Mr. Watson said "it is wrong to judge a school... on its exam results". How attitudes have changed, and not for the better.

I was a bundle of nerves before exams, especially when I was taking my O'Levels, and suffered terrifying panic attacks affecting my ability to think. If everyone had been like me, exam results would not have been impressive at all. It didn't mean I hadn't had a good education, though. I still quake at the memory of a silent school hall and single desks.

I think Mr Watson was probably wrong. Exam results have got to be one way of knowing how good a school is. I don't think Mellow Lane has changed for the better since Mr Watson's mode of thinking gained currency.
