'Drayton House', Church Road corner of Hemmen Lane taken in 1999. Formerly George Wardlaws Butchers Shop. The meat hanging rails still in-situ beneath the white top. The Slaughterhouse was originally to the rear. George Wardlaw had a grocers shop prior to this in one of the houses opposite on the bend.
Around 1972 this was briefly a sweet shop which I occasionally popped in to while walking home from school. I'd save my bus fare by walking and spend the money on sweets!
Last year this building was converted into flats, but they've had to keep the shop front.
