(see this users gallery) I fiddled with this in Adobe Photoshop, so don't worry, I wasn't suspended from a helicopter. Heaven knows how long the hands have been at 6.30, but it's over thirty years at the very least, because I first visited the building in 1976.
Interestingly, you can still see the diagonal markings on the brickwork where there was a form of roof or cover for the clock. You can see the original form in the factory picture from 1909.
Working hours were much longer a hundred years ago, and the Aeolian workforce knocked off at 7 pm. It's very appropriate that the clock is at 6.30 (pm), because many wistful pairs of eyes must have been looking at it every day at that time! |
