Poster: pianola  (see this users gallery)

This is an unofficial team, of eleven friends, and it includes one or two who didn't work for Universal. It comes from the mid-twenties, and consists of the following people, recalled in the late 1970s by Mr S.R.G. Day, who worked for Universal from 1913 to 1939.

Standing -

1: Mr Day
2 - 4: Three friends with no music roll connections
5: A chap who worked in the Aeolian piano factory
6: A.H. (Alfie) Fawn, who was still probably Aeolian Repair Department Manager at the time of this photo, but who went on to become Managing Director of Universal
7: A Universal roll label printer
8: Stanley Bell, the man responsible for putting the words on to music rolls, and therefore the operator of the stencil machine in the tower - see the 1920 overall view for more details
9: A West Indian who was in charge of music roll distribution, and who, Mr Day recalled, had some financial interest in the company

Sitting -

1: Mr Southwood, in charge of the Universal paper stores
2: George Wells, who made the rubber type for the word printing process, on a sort of compositor's typewriter
