Got mine today. Picked it up with rubber gloves and wearing a face mask, as I don't want to be polluted by this sinister stuff.

This is so very clever.

If all boroughs introduce similar schemes, it basically means we all have to pay more for parking, leisure etc wherever we are, EXCEPT in the one place where we can vote to do something about it.

It's just yet another stealth tax + state snooping exercise, and yet another increase in council tax to pay for the staff to run it.

Shame on Hillingdon.

Hillingdon council tax is frozen until 2011 and no new staff have been taken on to run the scheme.

Thanks councillor. However.... have staff been taken from other duties to run the scheme and then have you recruited to fill those gaps?

Even if not, it's clear this "scheme" is going to grow. I reckon, it'll become quite important, mandatory even. I suspect it will come to represent another lurch forward in the power and the size of the state and its knowledge and control over our lives. And its manipulation of our lives too.

I can just see the day now when I go for a swim, they swipe my Hillingdon First card and say "sorry, you can't come in, you have an unpaid parking ticket."

I am intrigued by this quote. It is obviously an attempt to suggest/spin that there has been little to no additional staffing costs associated with the introduction of the HF card system.

Even somebody like me would be able to work out that someone would have had to: manage this project, get the funding, design the card, get them printed, liaise with all the other Boro departments that will be using it, invite tenders then purchase and install the gate at Harefield tip, approach businesses about offering discounts, deal with press and PR - including the complaints from LBH, Bucks and Herts residents, and last but not least, compiling a database & then distributing the tens of thousands of cards.

So are you saying that one or more LBH staff have so much spare capacity that they can do all this in addition to their main role? Perhaps as Jon has said, other services will suffer as staff have been removed from them to deal with the HF card? or (as I suspect) have the LBH sub contracted out the work to expensive private contractors?

Spot-on!!!

The Oyster card system is migrating from London to other councils.

Councils today have an inbuilt susceptibility to these highly contagious viruses of control.

It is very possible that in future all personal travel will be restricted to the local area of council/soviet control.

Isn't it very strange that a Tory run council is implementing control systems that would normally be part a Marxist soviet authority?
