The summer before last I took my invalid mother to Weymouth for a few days. While there I parked in the Swannery car park and, after checking the payment conditions, left my mothers disabled parking cards on the dashboard. The next day I returned to find a parking ticket on the car. I visited the local council offices to ask why I had received the ticket and was told it was because the documentation had been placed the "wrong way up".
Having produced my mother in a wheel chair with the disabled parking cards, they agreed to cancel the charge. I returned to the car park and placed the cards, ensuring that they were the "right" way up. The next day I found that I had received ANOTHER parking ticket. On further investigation, I was told that the signature and validity dates had been faded by the sun and were considered illegible.
After a LONG discussion it was agreed that if my mother could get new documentation and have copies sent through to them the fine would be cancelled. After my mother arranged for replacement documentation (for the cards that she had been using quite happily in Milton Keynes), I had to drive 100 miles to get it photocopied (at 72 and disabled she wasn't up to this task). Eventually I got a snotty letter from Weymouth Council saying they would overlook the fine this time but would not be so lenient next time. |
