Q: This is shocking. Surely Hillingdon must have consulted the public?
A: You're right, it is shocking! Hillingdon claim the public were consulted by Transport for London, only no-one
can remember this consultation. However, even this mysterious exercise resulted in... a poor response, but a majority
AGAINST!
Q: What about your local councillors?
A: What about our local councillors?
Q: I ask the questions! Surely they consulted your local councillors and surely your local councillors consulted you?
A: Your faith in the system is touching. Of the six local councillors, 5 are mysterious beings whose whereabouts are unknown.
They apparently told Cllr Burrows this unwanted bus extension is a good thing, do it!
Q: You said there were 6. What about the other one?
A: Ah yes, glad you asked. We know the other one - Cllr Peter Curling - and we know him because he knows us, the local
residents. He knows the area too! He knows what local people want because he meets and speaks to them and responds to their
emails. He even has a regularly updated blog dammit, to keep us all informed.
Q: He can't be real?
A: He is. Look, here's a picture of him! Click on the picture to visit his blog.
Councillor Peter Curling: our hero!

Q: Why don't people want this bus extension?
A: Charville Lane already has two buses which terminate there: the 195 and the U7. The existing bus stops are a short
walk from any point in Charville Lane. The other roads are a short walk from Uxbridge Road which is well served by major bus
routes. When an attempt was made to run an extended service along the same route a few years ago, it was withdrawn due to
lack of interest. On that occasion, people could even hail and stop the bus ANYWHERE along the route, there were no bus
stops. But this time, Cllr Burrows wants to allow Transport for London to stick enormous, ugly bus stops on parts of the
route and to run the unwanted service from dawn till midnight!
Q: So what reasons have the council given?
A: They want local people to be able to get to Lombardy Retail Park more easily.
Q: At the expense of local shopping parades? Local traders will be charmed.
A: Indeed. Oh, and they think 200 yards is too far for pupils from Abbotsfield and Swakelys to walk to the existing bus
stops.
Q: I thought councils wanted kids to walk a bit... more than 200 yards even!
A: So did we. Seems they change their minds when there's money being waved in front of them by Transport for London and a
chance to deface more of the borough with hideous "street furniture". Town halls love that sort of thing.
Q: Those plans must be wrong - they show two big bus bays near a dangerous bend at the top of Charville Lane.
A: They can't put the bus stops too embarrassingly close to the existing ones, so the dangerous bend will have to do. They
want TfL's money. Then again, Mellow Lane gets 3 bus stops both ways, so who knows.....
