Chassis Inspection Personnel - 1960(?)

John Wingrove, standing and Sonny Verinder, doing Pre-delivery Checks on South Wales Transport no. 498 Regent Mk.V in the Chassis Inspection & Rectification Shop at AEC, Southall, probably around the late 1950s.
Webmaster Neil Fraser has identified SWT 498 as being Regn. no. OCY681.

The photograph shows John either removing or replacing the front grille, whilst Sonny adjusts the bonnet alignment via its diagonal brace.A front axle jack and instruments are in place for wheel-algnment checks.
We are unsure of the reason for this picture being taken and can't see the Regent's number plate, but we can see a Mammoth chassis nearby, and a Mercury(?) reflected in the bus's bodywork.

The photograph was kindly contributed by John's daughter, Norma Drake, via our man Mark of Ealing. It is from AEC Neg. 15057 (or 16007).

Sadly, John died of cancer at the age of 59 in 1962, but Norma has kindly allowed us to display his 10-YEAR SAFE DRIVING AWARD via this Link.
