THE AEC SOCIETY
INTRODUCTION & INVITATION

From Membership Enrolment Secretary:

Neil Musgrove
4A Josend Crescent, Tirley, Gloucester, GL19 4EX, Great Britain.

The AEC Society was founded by enthusiasts of the marque in 1983.The AEC name will always be one of the most respected marques in the British commercial vehicle industry, although production ceased at Southall in 1979.

The Society has grown to be one of the largest clubs in the country with a specialised interest in commercial vehicles. Our paid up membership figure was 817 at the end of January 1999 and new members are joining evey month. The Society caters for many interests, including vehicle preservationists and current operators of AEC vehicles both at home and abroad.
Many former AEC employees are members, along with transport historians, photographers, journalists and former AEC operators, drivers and mechanics. Many members are enthusiasts who have happy memories of AECs operating in their own locality, or who took an interest in a particular haulage or passenger fleet.

The Society's members are kept informed by the AEC Society Gazette , which is published four times each year and contains news about AECs still in service, vehicles and spares for sale, together with members' articles about their experiences with AEC vehicles.

The annual AEC Society Road Run and Rally, which attracts a turnout of about 130 AEC vehicles each year, has now become established as a major vehicle rally in the commercial vehicle rally calendar. It is a two day event held on the last weekend in May. On the Saturday there is a vehicle Road Run, with overnight parking and refreshments. On the Sunday there is a stationary exhibit of AEC vehicles with appropriate sales stands and a parade of vehicles in the afternoon. In addition, a one day Southern AEC Society Gathering is being arranged for September this year in an attempt to stage a rally closer to the old AEC works at Southall, so making it easier for local ex-employees of AEC Limited to attend.

The Annual General Meeting is held in the Birmingham area in late October each year and provides a good opportunity to meet the Committee and other members.

Membership of the AEC Society is open to anyone interested in the marque and to join, simply complete the on-line Membership Application Form and return it together with your remittance to the Membership Enrolment Secretary, Neil Musgrove, at the address given above and on the form. The joining fee / annual subscription is 12.00. Apart from regular issues of the AEC Society Gazette , Membership also entitles you to an AEC Society Membership Card with Number , a copy of our Rules and Constitution, a copy of both our Spares and Service Directories compiled by member and technical author Graham Edge, together with an enamelled AEC Society Badge and two AEC Society Windscreen Stickers . Depending on stock availability, you will also receive a recent issue of the AEC Society Gazette.

Clothing and other merchandise , all bearing the AEC Triangle motif are usually available from the AEC Society stall at our Rallies and at the Annual General Meeting.

We look forward to receiving your Membership Application Form and welcoming you into our Society.
