With the careful use of O rings and a couple of penny washers you should be able to fit a CAV 296 filter element inside the bowl. Otherwise replace the complete assembly with one compatible for the 296. The dimensions of the head are very similar, you just need to ensure that the connections are correctly handed and threaded.
