Bedankt voor het compliment, Josh. ;)

I have attached two pictures of the thermostat, partnumber is 81-2503.
I have found the same partnumber in a spare part catalogue of the Mandator with AV760 engine, so I assume both engines used the same thermostat.

Inside diameter thermostat housing = 2 1/2 inch.
Thermostat height = 68mm

If someone has any information about matching numbers from aftermarket suppliers, don't hesitate to let me know.

best regards,
Evarist

Seems that the thermostat is hard to find. I was wondering what would happen if I would replace this model with another thermostat which don't has the opening for the bypass.
Does anyone have any experience what that would do to with the engine?

If someone should have or find the thermostat but thinks it's too much trouble since I live in Belgium, feel free to call Jonathan Pye at 07811 645879 for more information. He has been a great help to me the last two years in finding all the bits and pieces I need for restoring my lorry.

best regards,
Evarist

Yes, very hard to find - I have been trying to source one for around a year now with no joy!! I'm wonering if there may be an equivalent 'pattern part' available, which would do the same job? Also, would there be any difference between the thermostats for the AV505 and the AH505?

regards,

Nick

You must use the correct thermostat guys.
Failure to fit one, or fit one without the bypass port will result in the coolant taking the path of least resistance, which is not round the cylinder block!.

Bernie Smith had these - 01536 790790
So did Cliff Fletcher - 07803 121435
And Ray Trigg - 01782 513284 - Mob 07974361439

They all go to Malvern on 17th March, so that's the place to find one.
These thermostats fitted lots of engines, not just AEC, so you really won't struggle to find one.

Thanks everyone for your reactions.

I am no longer searching for a thermostat, the new stat is in my possession since last friday.
Paul Charlwood had one for me, NOS and working perfect.

I think he might have some more stats, you can contact him at
paulcharlwood29@btinternet.com

best regards,
Evarist
