Post subject:  Broken front spring leafs - AEC Regent V

I own a 1965 AEC Regent V 2D3RA which is currently being prepared for its Class V MOT.

Unfortunately it has two broken front spring leafs, which measure:
* 33 inches long x 4 inches wide x 3/8ths inch thick &
* 37 1/2 inches long x 4 inches wide x 3/8ths inch thick.

Can anyone recommend where I might obtain such spring leafs, or failing that, a complete front spring?

Thanks!

Paul Jenkins

Try Owen Springs of Rotherham. IIRC they will recondition the spring and return it like new. There are other specialists maybe nearer to you. Do not mess about trying to fit odd leaves it is a waste of time, even if you find another leaf of the same dimensions it will have taken on a different 'set' (different curve) to your own spring so it will very soon break. It would be adviseable to send both springs away since the bus will probably lean to one side otherwise or more seriously affect the handling ie it will sway more one way than the other. You are likely to find that the shackles have worn the chassis away very badly which will require building up with weld and grinding back. Good luck with getting the front cotter bolts out.

Thanks for your feedback.
In the end we took an alternative approach with the spring and 513 successfully passed its MOT.
