Post subject:  Re: Engine oil in old AEC's

We use and have used for 25 years the cheapest 15w 40 engine oil from the supermarkets. No additives, no detergents and what was used when the buses and engines were designed and built.
It's not really necessary to take off the basket filter at every oil change as any "debris" should come out in the oil. If you do take it down use grease as a gasket. And before anyone asks, we have only changed an engine once in 25 years of using up to 10 AEC Regent llls in regular service doing thousands of miles a year, and none of our buses has an engine fitted by LT before 1976.
